Biohellenika pioneer in cardiac failure stem cells treatment

Biohellenika pioneer in stem cell therapies announced  18 bone marrow stem cells injections in heart during by-pass surgery in the last two years in collaboration with the Aristotelian University Cardio-Surgery Clinic. Toronto General’s Peter Munk Cardiac Centre και το Mainsonneuve-Rosemont Hospital Montreal announced 8 treatment at  the same time. The stem cells injection takes places during  by-pass surgery or balloon angioplasty and stent placement soon after the attack. The injection is directed to the cardiac muscle at the periphery of the damaged area during the operation or inside the coronary arteries in the case of stent placement. Injection in  one month post attack  shows good  results an even better if the injection takes place hours after the event.  The stem cells are taken from bone marrow during   by- pass surgery by iliac crest aspiration under anesthesia in  the beginning of the operation or scheduled before in the case of stent.  The cells can be stored in cryogenic conditions for several injections and can be used any time the patient needs.    Lastly, adipose tissue stem cells are used with the same results and the advantages are that this type of cells are collected more easier and with lesser suffering from the patient.
